Buriram Marathon

The Buriram Marathon is the first race in Thailand to be awarded a World Athletics Silver Label (as of 2021).

It has been run since 2017 at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram in North Eastern Thailand.

The marathon race attracts close to 5,000 participants each year, but there is also a half marathon, 10k, and 5k race option.

Buriram means "city of happiness", and whilst I can't imagine any marathon race being pain free the sense of achievement that you'll have crossing the finish line will help the town live up to its name.

Lonely Planet describes Buriram as lacking "much of interest to tourists" (rude !) but that might in itself be a selling point - enjoy the unique Thai culture in a smaller race away from touristic crowds. The town has an airport, so you can always move on and explore other areas of the country.
