The 2020 event has been postponed until 2020-10-11 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Manchester, England

11th October 2020

The Manchester Marathon is the UK's second largest marathon (after the infamous London Marathon).

It takes place on closed roads surrounding the city of Manchester. The 2020 edition is the first time that the course has gone into the city center.

The race has a poor reputation as far as its organisation/execution goes and there were a number of years (2013/14/15) during which the course measurements were short. It is understood that since then the courses have been accurately measured, and there has been a change of control. The event is currently organised by Human Events Ltd.

Unfortunately however, the current organisers have an obnoxious approach to their marketing whereby they incessantly spam interested parties with 'last chance' offers and factually untrue statements in relation to the number of available places. The price point is also a turn off for some.

Regardless of the above, Manchester is often considered the 'second city' of the UK, and the 'capital of the north'. It is a fantastic city to explore, and the people are incredibly friendly.

The city is incredibly flat, and as a result the course definitely has PB potential.

If you are visiting the city you can watch a football match (at Old Trafford or The Etihad depending on where your allegiances lie), visit Salford Quays, enjoy some fantastic food (Manchester is a fantastic city for foodies), and much much more.
