London, England

28th April 2019

The London Marathon is an infamous marathon that has been taking place since 1981.

It is one of the 6 World Marathon Majors, and takes places at the end of April each year.

It is an extremely popular marathon due to its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, relatively cheap cost, and location in London - the English capital.

It is well known for its incredible crowd support and its open and welcoming attitude towards fancy dress and novel world record attempts. At the 2018 event, the author of this description fondly remembers being overtaken by a tree as well as an in depth conversation about the logistics of breaking the world record for running a marathon dressed as a rhino.

Its location in London, England makes it a fantastic destination race. Whilst in the city, you can visit all of the sights - Big Ben, The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace. The list is endless. The race route crosses Tower Bridge which makes for an awe inspiring memory.

Given the above, and the low entry cost (relative to other similarly sized races) the race is extremely over subscribed. The ballot process is very competitive, and many find that the 'Good for Age' process is the best way of guaranteeing entry.
