New York, USA

2nd November 2014

The New York Marathon is the biggest marathon in the world, attracting over 50,000 participants each year (a few more than the 127 who took part in the inaugural event).

The race route takes in all five boroughs of the Big Apple. It is a World Athletics Platinum Label event, and one of the six World Marathon Majors.

The race is organised by New York Road Runners who organise races all year round in the city. They are a non profit who aim to inspire people through running.

2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the race that takes people from Staten Island to Central Park.

The race essentially serves as a sight seeing tour of the city, but once you have finished you wont be short of things to do. It is New York after all. Check out the Statue of Liberty, visit Ground Zero, or simply sit down and enjoy a bagel !
